Montgomery Zoo was established in a small urban park in Montgomery, Alabama, and has grown, expanded and become the most important animal facility in the United States. Montgomery Zoo started as a local community park in the 1920s, starting with a small children's zoo. In Oak Park, there are crocodiles, monkeys, bears and other animals in the zoo. There is a small train and a carousel for the children. As the years passed and their dreams grew, they moved to the northern part of the rapidly expanding town in 1972 and still retain their current position. The zoo began with 6 acres of land, a small pet zoo, a variety of monkeys, a flight cage named after the 1906 St. Louis World's Fair and a chimpanzee named Bangui. In 1976, the Zoo hosted the first fundraiser called Zoo Day. This initial event became an annual event and even took a new name.
