Starting at the end of the 19th century, five generations of the Martinelli family began growing grapes from their estates in the Russian river valley and on the Sonoma coast. The founder of Martinelli Winery planted the first grapes in 1896, and the vineyards have been continuously planted by five generations of Martinelli's descendants. Martinelli Winery’s wine was made in Windsor's century-old hops barn. Chardonnay, pinot noir, Syrah, zinfandel and Muscat Alexander grow on land owned by more than a dozen estates. Estates in the Russian river valley and Sonoma coast grow goldened, pinot noir, chardonnay and Syrah. Their mission is to produce small quantities of quality manor wines.
