About Malabar
Malabar Knows that Sarah started her business in Winnipeg, Manitoba around 1900, working as a jersey supplier in the transportation industry. With unprecedented economic growth and the golden age of live entertainment, Sara felt the opportunity in a thriving local scene, and by 1906 she became the owner of S. clothing and hair products. Sarah's relationship with the Winnipeg Opera Association helped her build her reputation as a professional apparel maker, and by the 1920s Sara had a viable apparel business. Malabar Knowing that Sarah's son Harry moved to Toronto to establish a business in 1923, and opened a clothing and dance store on Spadina Avenue. To avoid confusion with the Winnipeg store, the company's name was eventually changed to Ltd., with an L removed from the name.
