Glass Academy in Dearborn, Michigan is an idea created by two founders, Michelle Pralinsky and Chris Notting. The store opened in Detroit in 2003 and moved to what is now Dearborn in 2004. During the day, this 14,000-square-foot facility serves as the founding partner's private art studio, with major commissions producing glass, metal, and mixed media for hospitals, hotels, private patrons, and businesses. At night, it became an educational facility for the community, showing glass "experiences", simple, fun, and disposable hands in the classroom. Hidden in an ancient tool and mold area in Dearborn's West End, Glass Academy aims to expand consumer awareness of how handmade glass can be used as a functional and decorative element in modern applications.
