Fort Henry built between 1832 and 1837 to replace the existing fortifications of the War of 1812! They were at Cape Henry and protected the naval dockyard at Cape Frederick as well as the entrance to the Rideau Canal and the town of Kingston, which was the main transit point on the supply route between Montreal or Ottawa and points west! During the First World War they underwent superficial restoration and were used as internment camps for political prisoners. After the war the fort fell into a state of complete disrepair. Today after years of the Guard's march, Fort Henry continues to serve Kingston residents and visitors from around the world as a museum and historical site.
