About CGAF
The non-profit Coconut Grove Arts and Historical Association organizes the CGAF. Arts programs are supported year-round by proceeds. The association has given out hundreds of scholarships to students who participate in local schools' fine arts programs since its founding in 1963. Since its inception, CGAF has been regarded as Miami's first art district. In 1963, neighborhood theater expert Charlie Cinnamon requested a modest bunch from local people to reproduce an open air Parisian display as an exposure stunt for the Coconut Woods Playhouse's creation of Irma la Douce. The Cinnamon, who was born in New York, moved to Miami in the late 1950s with the intention of making his mark on the city. He finally got started on his journey to becoming a major figure in the arts scene in Miami by going to the Coconut Grove Playhouse.
