John L. Petersen, who had previously pursued multiple careers in the military, the nonprofit sector, residential real estate development, advertising and marketing, presidential politics, national security policy, and the music industry, established the Arlington Institute in 1989. Petersen sent off TAI to assist with reclassifying the idea of public safety in a lot bigger, far reaching terms by presenting the quickly developing worldwide patterns of populace development, natural debasement, logical/mechanical blast, and social worth movements into the conventional public protection condition that had zeroed in on "killing individuals and breaking things". Arlington Institute has always been focused on big ideas and big problems from the beginning. The bipartisan National Security Group project that Petersen co-founded and jointly led in Washington, DC from 1986 to 1987 sparked the need for an organization like TAI.
