About Castle in the Sand
In 1683, after receiving a land gift from the King of England, the Shawl family came to Worcestershire. Castle in the Sand they built in what is now Shorewell, Maryland, is over 10,000 acres and has been very successful. Lemuel Showell was his successor, engaged in shipping and transportation. He is the president of C & P Railways, which helps deliver goods and passengers to the Del Marwa Peninsula. Following the successful opening of Atlantic City, New Jersey, a group of investors approached New York's lawyer Tabor to create a small town. Most are local families, and their names are now widely known. Castle in the Sand needed a way to bring their guests to Ocean City, so they found Ramire Shawell, who loves Barrier Island and already has a home there. The only way to get back to the island is to cross the bay.
