Fée Halsted started teaching ceramics to a talented group of rural people on a farm in a remote part of the Kwazulu-Natal province in South Africa in 1985, which is where the story of Ardmore Design began. The name Ardmore Design comes from the name of the first farm that Fée lived on in the captivating Champagne Valley in Kwazulu-Natal. It was on this farm that she met Bonnie Ntshalintshali for the first time. Bonnie was Fée's first student, and they shared the standard bank young artist award in 1990 thanks to Fée's guidance. Fée moved to a picturesque smallholding in the Caversham Valley a few years later as Ardmore grew at an exponential rate. She moved the Ardmore studio and Bonnie Ntshalintshali Museum to her house and built the Ardmore family a one-of-a-kind house.
