The rich history of Zuppardis started in New Haven, CT with Dominic Zuppardi. Having taken in his exchange on the southern shoreline of Italy, Dominic was an expert bread-pastry specialist in New Haven all through the 1920s. In 1932, Dominic chose to open his own shop, Salerno's Bakery, on Donnelly Place in New Haven. After two years, in 1934, Dominic moved his business to Union Avenue in West Haven, CT. In the last part of the 1940s, Dominic became sick because of a stroke and could never again satisfy the necessities of the pastry shop. Dominic's child, Anthony Zuppardi, chose to step in. Anthony extended his menu by mixing it up of meat and vegetable garnishes, most prominently, his hand crafted Italian fennel wiener. His clients cherished it right away and the interest for his pizza developed dramatically! In 1947, he changed the name of the shop from Salerno's Bakery to Zuppardis.
