About World Music Institute
World Music Institute was established in 1985 as a non-profit organization and has been one of the main providers of music and dance in the United States and the world. They are committed to showcasing excellent traditional and contemporary music and dance from all over the world, enriching people's lives through art, promoting people's understanding and appreciation of the world's rich cultural traditions and encouraging cross-cultural dialogue and exchanges. They rely on public and private funds to accomplish their mission through virtual means and displays in venues across New York City. It also provides a platform for many young American experimental artists to share their music with the world. World Music Institute introduced to the American audience a large amount of music that was difficult to access at the time, including artists from Cuba, the Middle East, and Central Asia.
