What-Cha is a small independent tea shop made up of himself (Alistair) and his father, who helps pack the tea every day. In 2014, he started What Cha with the goal of sharing his love of tea, which is incredibly diverse and unique in taste. He wanted What-Cha to be different from other tea stores, to be unique and to serve both producers and consumers. He believes too many companies rely on a small group of wholesalers for their tea. This is a negative for consumers because they find that many tea shops sell the same tea to each other, while for tea producers, this is a huge problem because their bargaining power comes from how much of the tea market they control, and they are forced to give big discounts to wholesalers.
