Marshall Blair, who had been making plates and bowls for his restaurants since 2015, started The Pottery Studio in Atwater Village when he bought a gas kiln and invited a few other potters to help fill it. An ever increasing number of potters came, so they began adding classes, and The Stoneware Studio authoritatively started. Follow them on Instagram to get daily glimpses of their studios. In 2018, they relocated the studio from Atwater to their spacious Cypress Park-area building. Hundreds of potters, students, and a thriving ceramic community call The Pottery Studio their home. The studio now offers classes twice daily to more than 400 members since moving to 2808 Elm Street. As they work to open up and improve this tangled structure with its bow and truss design, many of their original members continue to work in this space.
