About Staptx
A program called Staptx (Specialized Telecommunication Assistance Program) was created to make phones more accessible to people with disabilities. The Public Utility Commission levies a tax on all cellphone bills in order to raise money. People who have difficulty communicating over the phone can apply to Staptx for funding to buy a phone that will accommodate their needs, such as: A text message-capable phone is ideal for deaf people. A phone that speaks to blind people so they can hear who is calling and who they are calling. A gadget that speaks for someone who is speech-impaired utilizing a communication app.
