About Spinnaker Hotel
For more than 61 years. Spinnaker Hotel has been a popular dining spot for both locals and tourists for generations. The Spinnaker was built in 1960 by Bill McDonnell and California State Senator Gene McAteer on a spit of land in Sausalito called Shell Beach. It is now an iconic restaurant that is perched on piers over the San Francisco Bay on the Sausalito waterfront. Because oyster shells from all of the nearby restaurants were dumped there, the beach got its name. Spinnaker Hotel is one of the few restaurants in the Bay Area that is owned and operated by a family, with Bill's son Tim McDonnell at the helm and partner and general manager Jeff Scharosch, who has been with the business for more than 27 years. The family also owns and runs Folsom, California's Cliff House.
