More than 60 years ago, Swiss ski pioneer Ernie Blake discovered the towering vertical and snowy landscape of this awesome mountain peak on his Cessna 170. SkiTaos's vision for the future is to pay tribute to the Blacks' dreams while injecting new energy and funding into the resort. In the early 1950s, Ernie and Roda Black lived with their children in Santa Fe, where Ernie managed the new Santa Fe ski basin. As part of the job, Ernie will fly his Cessna 170 to Southern Colorado to work at Santa Fe's sister ski resort, Glenwood Springs. His dream is to have a ski resort of his own, so he looks for a place on the fly and he can start building his vision. In the end, he found an ideal location, a large snow basin north of SkiTaos in the Lakar Basin.
