Simpson Hardware is established in 1951 by them with the acquisition of a store on Broad Street in Camden, SC. Quite a while later, a subsequent store was opened in Hartsville, SC. Subsequent to selling these areas, they bought the Boyle Hardware store in Sumter, SC. That store was opened under the Simpson Hardware name on West Liberty Street in 1961. After one action a few traffic lights away, the first name in Sumter actually stays on West Liberty Street. In 1963 their stores became related with ACE Hardware. The first store on West Liberty Street was the primary ACE Hardware store in South Carolina. In the next year, a second their area was established at the Palmetto Plaza Shopping on Guignard Drive under the direction of Carl Simpson, III.
