In 2008, Rob Adams established Shop Black Rifle. Rob wanted to build an AR15 in California as a hobby and was interested in firearms. He was informed at the time that it was against the law by the nearby gun shops. He learned that it was legal, obtained legal representation, and constructed his own AR-15. Rob started a business selling parts and accessories, which he later expanded into a gun store. Six years later, Rob opened Sparks Black Rifle. It presented itself as a chance to ship inventory out of California, make it conform to California standards, and send it back in. It started out as a hub but quickly spread. After Rob moved to Idaho to escape California for himself, the Boise Black Rifle location opened in October 2020. Shop Black Rifle wanted to bring together a community of 2nd Amendment supporters who are aware that guns are not the issue in light of all the negative attention paid to "scary black guns.
