About Sheldon Ceramics
Sheldon Ceramics is a ceramics studio in downtown Los Angeles, just off the LA River, that is owned and operated by ceramicist Peter Sheldon. Similar to the geological forces that developed the raw materials they use in their pottery over millions of years, they look to their surroundings of decaying industry, which appear to be in an ongoing state of transformation by the forces of weather and age, as a source of inspiration. They find moments of stillness to articulate form in this industrial chaos. Pottery is the art of firing different kinds of earth to make beautiful things. Sheldon Ceramics make the decision to render their pieces by hand on a wheel each day, animating the clay as they space-draw their shapes. Pottery has been used by humans to communicate with one another and the land for thousands of years.
