About Scribes
Through its publications, programmes, and prizes, Scribes has promoted a clear, condensed, and compelling style in legal writing since 1953. Presently, they produce the Journal of Legal Writing and its magazine, The Scrivener; they collaborate with different legal organisations to offer CLE and other programmes; and they annually give out lifetime achievement and book prizes to outstanding law graduates and professionals of the legal community. They aim to encourage a concise, strong, and clear writing style in legal writing as well as to spark interest in writing about the law. In order to encourage legal authors to advance the art of legal writing, Scribes was established in 1953.
