About Radio City Music Hall
Nicknamed the Showplace of the Nation, it is the central command for the Rockettes, the accuracy dance organization. Radio City Music Hall was based on a plot of land that was initially planned for a Metropolitan Opera House, despite the fact that plans for the show house were dropped in 1929. It opened on December as a feature of the development of Rockefeller Center. The 5,960-seat Music Hall was the bigger of two scenes worked for Rockefeller Center's Radio City area, the other being Center Theater. It was generally fruitful until the 1970s, when declining support almost drove the Music Hall to liquidation. Radio City Music Hall was assigned a New York City Landmark, and the Music Hall was reestablished and permitted to stay open.
