Pontoon Specialists's idea came from their own pastime-building their own delicate lake boat. They were involved in the family meat market. Many of their meat market customers are people on vacation on the lake on weekends, and they know Pontoon Specialists's shipbuilding projects. People on weekend vacations started asking them to rebuild their boats and pontoons. The meat market business was sold in 1986, so they focused all their attention on the reconstruction of the pontoon. It started as a hobby and became one of the first full-time professional pontoon reconstruction companies in the Midwest. The 1990s and 2000s achieved sustained growth and expansion.
