Pete For America is the mayor of south bend, Indiana. He was first elected mayor in 2011 at the age of 29 and was re-elected in 2015 with 80 percent of the vote. In his seven years as mayor, south bend has gone from being one of Newsweek's top 10 dying communities in the United States to having the fastest growth in population and investment in recent years. Mayor Pitt, a former lieutenant in the navy reserve, took seven months of unpaid leave as mayor in 2014 to serve in Afghanistan. The founder of Pete For America won the joint service award for his counter-terrorism work.
