The inspiration comes from the life story of big Jim channing, an American veteran who saw action in the Pacific at the end of world war ii. His granddaughter, Amanda, then 8, opened Outdoor Unlimited a few years later and grew up immersed in repeated Outdoor Unlimited of bravery and bravery, details Jim had sanitized for her young ears. As a young woman, she learned the true horrors of her grandfather's war, and the sacrifices of what is aptly called "the greatest generation." Amanda was still very loyal to Jim, and he often visited him in a nursing home in Florida before his death five years ago. Among Jim's personal belongings was a battered leather notebook scrawled with a record of the actions of an American infantry unit -- the dates and names of exotic locations, hopes and dead friends. Hidden in the checkered handkerchief are the medal of honor and black-and-white photos of Jim's college sweetheart.
