MIT students John Brusger and Mike Dreese founded Newburycomics in 1978, selling Batman, Superman and Spider-Man stories from Brusger's amazing cartoons. In the early 1980s, a box of records placed in the middle of the cartoon sold so well that Newbury Cartoon began to enter the music industry. The 7-inch punk record that Dreis brought back from England and the booming local music atmosphere in Boston helped make a huge impact on the small store 268 Newbury Street. Now, Newburycomics sells music and pop culture products around the world through a very successful online company and 26 physical stores.
