About Little House on the Prairie Museum
13 miles southwest of Independence, Kansas, is the non-profit historical site and museum known as Little House on the Prairie Museum, which is committed to preserving Laura Ingalls Wilder's homestead. The mission of the 501(c)3 organization is to continue educating the public about Little House on the Prairie Books author Laura Ingalls Wilder and life in the prairie in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The museum is located on the original plot of property where, in 1870, Laura Ingalls Wilder and their family resided in a one-room log cabin. Later, they was inspired to write the timeless classic Little House on the Prairie Museum on the Prairie by their memories of their time spent here. Then they wrote a series of nine books that were aimed for youngsters but were adored by everyone. The goal of the Little house on the Prairie Museum is to promote a love of reading, Kansas history, the Kansas Prairie, and to help preserve Laura Ingalls Wilder's Kansas property in order to preserve their memory.
