It all started as a dream of a few business owners in La Jolla Concours who wanted to show off the beauty and charm of downtown La Jolla in the winter. Michel Ullman, Terry Underwood, and Yvette Marcum planned to hold a car show on the Ellen Browning Scripps Park lawn in 2003 after meeting at Georges at The Cove. The three of them belonged to Promote La Jolla, the local merchants' association at the time. They presented their idea to the board of the association; Tiffany Share, Deborah Marengo, Bob Meigs, Steve Edelstein, Bill Price, and Greg Rizzi, as well as all-star event promoter Laurel McFarlane, formed the La Jolla Motor Car Classic committee in response. MThe committee was successful in securing the necessary support and financial backing to realize their vision, and the inaugural La Jolla Concours was held in January 2004 with modest but promising beginnings.
