About Annapolis Symphony
Annapolis Symphony was established in 1962 by a small group of musicians who wanted to establish a classical music ensemble in Annapolis. Annapolis Symphony gilbert McNew, the company's founder and a native Annapolitan and local musician, and his coworker Rowe Steel practiced classical music frequently during their lunch breaks. McNew asked the owner of the Academy Music store to get in touch with him if any local musicians expressed an interest in joining an ensemble in an effort to recruit more musicians. John E. Bornhoeft, a newcomer to the area, stopped by the Academy Music store shortly thereafter to inquire about Annapolis musicians. He was an experienced violinist who wanted to keep playing with other people and enjoyed playing in other community orchestras.
