About Gilbert Whitney
In 1833 there existed a little shop by the name of Gilbert Whitney, found right at the intersection of Freedom and Lexington on the Autonomy Square. Ken and they agreed that the building deserved to be restored to its original state when they purchased it. In 1833, Gilbert Whitney evolved into a new version of the old-fashioned mercantile store. At the beginning of their journey with them, one half of the store was devoted to kitchenware and the other half to specialty groceries. The store still carries both, but it now carries more fresh foods that are more in line with modern lifestyles than just specialty foods that are given as gifts or to themselves when they need some pampering.
