Gate Theatre was founded in 1928 by Hilton Edwards and Micheál Mac Liammóir.. In 1983, Michael Colgan served as the boarding gate director. In the year that Dublin became the European Capital of Culture in 1991, Gatman collaborated with RTÉ and Trinity College Dublin to perform all 19 stage plays of Samuel Beckett in three weeks . During this period, with the generous support of funders, under the guidance of Ronnie Tallon and Tallon Walker architect Scott Ron, the structure of the Gate Theatre building was restored and renovated.
