Fair Park were declared a National Historic Site in 1986. They cover 277 acres and are located just east of downtown Dallas. Its cultural as well as historical and recreational venues receive visitors from all over the world all year round! The park opened in 1886 during the Dallas State Fair, and several buildings, including the Centennial Building and Cotton Bowl Stadium as well as debuted between 1900 and 1930. But they really became part of the national consciousness in 1936, when state leaders chose it to host the World's Fair to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Texas. The history, economy, flora and fauna of Texas are highlighted in the buildings as well as statues and murals designed for the event. Architects and artists from around the world designed the elements and established a unique Art Deco style throughout Fair Park.
