Durango Lodge is the largest town in southwest Colorado, home to over 16, 000 people. It is also unquestionably one of the most joyful. Locals often say that people who choose to live in Durango do so for the excellent quality of life rather than fame and fortune. With typical summer daytime highs in the 70s to 80s and nighttime lows in the 50s, Durango's climate is pleasant and moderate. Bring light and warm layers for the summer and winter. The "Four Corners, " where New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, and Colorado meet, is only a short drive from Durango. From red sandstone bluffs in the Animas River Valley to jagged peaks in the San Juan Mountains, some of which reach elevations of more than 14, 000 feet, Durango's surrounding landscape is varied and frequently dramatic. Durango Lodge is Colorado's year-round playground, with arid desert lands to the west and the vast 2 million acre San Juan Forest to the north and east.
