About Cliff House Lodge
George Morrison Sr, a businessman and builder, made an imprint not just on the town that presently bears his name, yet on the historical backdrop of the whole region. The Scottish stonemason and immigrant established his legacy in Mt. Vernon in 1859. In 1873, he used materials from his nearby quarry to construct Cliff House Lodge House, which served as his family's residence. Through the Denver & South Park Railway, he expanded his successes with the Cliff House Lodge Morrison Stone, Lime, and Townsite Company. Morrison, Colorado, is a stunning tourist destination that he established in 1874. John Swanson bought the property after his death in 1895 and started making it into a cozy lodge from a private estate.
