They said their goodbyes to Pete Sutherland, a pillar of Vermont Violins musical community in Vermont and beyond, with sadness but joy for a life well lived. He will be remembered by many for his most recent musical endeavor: Pete's Posse is a prominent contradance band. Pete's 1980s band Metamora, which performed at Pete's old haunts before Oren moved to Vermont, was Oren's personal introduction to folk music. Vermont Violinswill, however, remember him most fondly for instilling a love of music in the young people he taught, inspired, and mentored, including their son Ceile and Oliver, their wonderful fiddling salesman. His dedicated musical leadership with Young Traditions and the numerous young fiddlers he mentored have ensured that their community will have a living legacy that will be celebrated for a long time to come.
