UMS was selected as one of the recipients of the 2014 national medal of the arts, the highest public art honor in the United States, awarded annually by the President of the United States at the White House to those who "demonstrate their lifetime of creative excellence. The national art foundation is one of the oldest performing arts presenters in the United States. Located on the campus of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, it is dedicated to connecting audiences and performing artists from all over the world in order to obtain an extraordinary and fascinating experience. It has contributed to a vibrant cultural community with music, dance and drama writers, about 60-75 performances per season, and more than 100 free educational events. UMS also commissions new work, sponsors artist locales and works on projects with local, national and international partner organizations.
