Turtle Back Zoo is a facility that is fundraised by The Zoological Society of New Jersey. Its primary mission is to provide enriching and recreational experiences that can foster excellence in wildlife education and wildlife conservation. Turtle Back Zoo wants the present and the future generation to be inspired to understand, appreciate, and protect the delicate interdependence of all living things. In Turtle Back Zoo, the welfare of the animals is the primary priority. The state and the condition of all the animals were always and will always be considered in the planning and implementing the site master plan and SOPs of the zoo and also in the zoo’s daily activities. Since Turtle Back Zoo has the mission to have every individual realize the importance of animals in the community and the whole ecosystem, it has developed educational programs that cover people of all ages- from children to elderly people. Turtle Back Zoo’s Early Childhood Program covers the Hatchlings Program (6-24 months old), the Zoo Tots Program for children of 2-3 years old, and the Explorers Program for 4-5 years old children. Turtle Back Zoo also offers Zoo Camps for children entering kindergarten and grades 1-8. This activity is week-long and often done during the summer.
