Trout House a boarding house started in 1863. By the 1890s, Charles Wheeler expanded the original 22-room trout house Hotel to become one of the luxury hotels in Lake George. The first tourists in the Lake District belonged to the "privileged class" of society. They took a train from New York to Lake George, then boarded a steamer and headed north to one of the many hotels dotted by the lake.
