TEARS Animal Rescue is a registered non-profit organization and is one of the leading animal welfare organizations in the United States. When three women-Emma Gil Cook, Joan Bowen, and Marilyn Holler- visited Masip Hummer with a tick and a pack of deworming tables, they planted what would eventually become TEARS Animal rescue seeds. The company opened a clinic in Masiphumelele in March 1999 to treat animals with fleas, man flies and ticks. Founder Marilyn said: "They started to accumulate unwanted and stray animals and desperately needed facilities to house them. They started renting kennels in Ottery for their rescued dogs. The company was later able to the rented house that moved to Sunnydale has grown into an existing, sustainable non-profit organization with more than 50 employees caring for about 300 cats and dogs at any given time.
