About Spokane Hoopfest
For the past 20 years, Spokane Hoopfest has been cooperating with Spokane Public Schools and organized the "Ignite Basketball Association" for sixth to eighth grade students in several schools in the central city area. The target population comes from areas in their communities where poverty and unemployment rates are high, crime rates are high, drug abuse problems are serious, and gangs are rampant. The alliance has achieved great success, with nearly 400 students participating in weekly practice courses, weekend games and seminars. This project provides many children with a safe and positive environment for them to learn teamwork and sportsmanship, while giving them the tools they need to deal with the social challenges Spokane Hoopfest faces every day. The coach needs to train on working days every week and supervise the game on Saturday night. Each coach has two to three teams training together. They encourage all coaches to have an assistant coach or a joint coach. No experience required!
