The Seagull 1963 heritage began in 1955 in Tianjin, the oldest industrial city in China, with an idea and a small budget. After years of servicing other people's watches, they decide to take on the challenge of making their own. The first Chinese watch was produced in the Tianjin Watch Factory, and it was the first to leave the country. It took almost a hundred days to make what was first termed "WuXing" (Five Stars). When Mao came to power, the company rebranded under the name Dong Feng (East Wind). To better appeal to an international clientele, the firm changed its name to Seagull 1963 in 1974, the year it first began exporting watches.
