The predecessor of Schaefer Outfitter was founded on steamships in the late 1970s. Schaefer Outfitter is a local institution that produces down vests for skiers which feature a complete leather western yoke. Cub Schaefer, the founder, moved to Jackson, and Wyo, and founded Schaefer Outfitter. The young company hit a growth spurt in the 1980s, when full-length trousers were all the rage in urban denim.
