They began Plantflix in May 2019 as an Instagram account, and they decided to try growing houseplant seeds they found on Ebay. They were, you guessed it, Watermelon Peperomia and Calathea Medallion seeds from China that cost about $2 each for 100 seeds. After germination, it was obvious that these were Magnolia seeds. They started looking for reliable sources when they realized that this was happening to other hobbyists who kept houseplants. After searching for a few weeks, they found their first grower, uploaded the seeds to Etsy, and the business took off.
