About Pennington Publishing
English language arts and reading intervention materials for Grades 4–8 are the focus of Pennington Publishing. Each curriculum has been carefully field tested in classrooms and created by teachers for instructors and their students. Assessment-based instruction and learning are priorities for Pennington Publishing. As teachers started switching from whole to part to part to whole instructional methodologies in the late 1990s, the firm got its start. The advantages of literature-based reading instruction and writers workshops were still desired by teachers, but they also recognized the need to incorporate explicit, systematic phonics instruction as well as direct instruction in reading strategies, spelling, writing, grammar, usage, and mechanics. Teachers sought more instructional resources that were tied to their local state standards and standardized assessments as the standards-based movement gathered speed.
