Mari Vineyards, located on the Old Mission Peninsula in Traverse City, Michigan, is dedicated to producing fine wines. Marty Lagina, the founder of Mari Vineyards, made (some would say) a crazy choice to grow grapes that shouldn't have been grown in Michigan, believing he could produce world-class wines that wouldn't otherwise be produced here. Therefore, loyal to his Italian tradition, he planted Nebbiolo, Sangiovese and other exotic varieties. Now his dream has come true, with a little creative grape growth and a lot of attention. Their first vineyard was planted on the Old Mission Peninsula on a hot and crazy weekend in 1999. With thousands of grapevines - including some of the less common varieties mentioned above - waiting to be planted, baked in the sun or absorbed too much water, things must happen quickly.
