About Maple Leather
This is the passion of musicians for music, this is how Maple Leather and Lisa Martin feel about their backpacks, wallets and fashionable bags made of leather and tapestries. Even after working together for more than 20 years, the two can still be excited about the new pocket of the phone or Ipod. The origins of and Maple Leather can be found in the craftsmanship and skills passed down from generation to generation. Seymour Mondshein / Lisa Martin started making bags in his father's maple skin shop in Newark, New Jersey when he was eleven. Abraham Mondshein is a European-trained furrier and survivor of the Holocaust. He likes to put his son in his workshop after school. The couple met when Lisa came to work as a resident textiles artist at the Peters Valley Craft Center in New Jersey. The rest is history.
