KOBOLD Watch was founded in 1998 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as part of a Carnegie Mellon University entrepreneurship program. The original investment was $5,000. During the Dotcom boom, the firm was an early pathfinder by being the first watch brand to sell its products directly over the Internet. The company's objective was straightforward: to provide innovative and intriguing designs. Despite its lowly beginnings, Kobold has always been fiercely independent. It has traditionally placed a disproportionate focus on making its own products, going against the flow in an industry that has become increasingly reliant on third-party suppliers. KOBOLD Watch began by creating tool watches for pilots, divers, military and law enforcement personnel, as well as explorers, adventurers, and scientists.
