About Kaituna Cascades
In the early 1990s, Kaituna Cascades Cascades was the first operator to begin rafting the Kaituna River. Kaituna Cascades company was founded in 1991 by KEITH HUGHES, a long-time raft guide and local expert kayaker. Evidently, this was only after a lot of practice runs down the river that was officially considered to be un-draftable with any willing friends, family members, or whoever was brave enough to try it out. The rest is history: the stoke was high, the river was amazing and unique, and it proved to be as safe as grade 5 can be. Pete Lodge, a Rotorua resident who had been working for Keith since he finished high school, and Christchurch-born Julian Mathison, aka "Blue, " who had been working for the Cascades for more than ten years, took over after Keith retired after 26 wonderful years in business.
