About Inn At Manchester
The purchase of a building lot by Inn At Manchester from George Woodcock in September 1888 marked the beginning of the story of their historic Inn At Manchester. Mrs. Shepard, a Cleveland, Ohio, widow, brought her daughter, also a widow, Mrs. Fanny Strong, as well as her two children, Grace and Shepard, to this location. The modest home of Dr. Ezra Isham, who moved to Manchester in 1798 and was the grandfather of Edward S. Isham, whose summer home, Ormsby Hill, became well-known in the early 20th century, was once on the lot she bought. That street was originally known as Shepard's Lane, and it still bears that name today, despite the fact that very few people are aware of its history.
