About Historic Charleston
They advocate for all neighborhoods, parks, gardens, historic buildings and the memories they’re made of and help make the vital decisions that move them all forward. The goal of the Historic Charleston is to stabilize neighborhoods by securing the future of their historic structures and community. By all accounts, Historic Charleston is a successful, vibrant city: named Condé Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards No. 1 U.S. City year over year, a growing population, rising property values, and new businesses springing up across the region. Despite these accolades and growth, they are grappling with the social equity implications of its economic success. Concerns over displacement and gentrification are increasing, while the character of the historic neighborhoods in their upper peninsula continues to change dramatically. They see this initiative as a catalyst in the preservation of entire neighborhoods rehabilitating deteriorated properties with architectural merit and ensuring long-time residents stay in the places they call home.
