Unable to find a ski wax to use with hot wax, Terry began working with Dr. Timothy C. Donnelly to design a new wax. Dr. Donnelly introduced Hertel to surfactants as an additive to paraffin, and the famous super hot sauce all temperature wax was born in 1973. Terry continued his research and developed the first fluorocarbon ski wax, the racing car FC 739 in 1986. In the same year, due to extensive research, he invented the "Spring Solution", a wax used to drive away pollen and dust in warm springs. In 1991, Hertel applied for a patent and registered a trademark for the world's fastest ski wax, platinum. Platinum has won numerous gold medals in Olympic and World Cup downhill skiing, downhill skiing and snowboarding. In the 90's, the Burton Snowboarders won many games with platinum because they dominated the scene.
